Kapsali beach
Kapsali Beach Kythira: Near the picturesque village of Kapsali, that are visible from the Castle of Chora, are two twins sandy bays. The smaller one consists of small rocks and is quite remote, while the other one offers a refreshing swim at the beautiful crystal waters.
Kapsali is one of the most popular beaches of Kythira lined with restaurants and cafes. Due to its safe and pleasant environment it is quite ideal for families and children. Visitors are amazed by the stunning mountain backdrop and the cosmopolitan atmosphere.
The rocky islet of Avgo (egg) can be seen offshore, forming a strange shape, reminding of Uranus genitals, thrown by Cronus in the sea from which Aphrodite roused. The locals claim that it is the birthplace of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and desire.
Avlemonas beach
Avlemonas Beach Kythira: Avlemonas is one of the most popular fishing village in Kythira with picturesque atmosphere and stunning coves. The main beach of the settlement consist of sparkling waters and an amazing rocky landscape. It is often described as a natural pool, ideal for swimming. In close distance you will find a couple of nice taverns. Visitors can choose among several coves and beautiful beaches in Avlemonas. Behind the village of Avlemonas is the beach of Paleochori, one of the largest coasts of the island.
Chalkos beach
Chalkos Beach Kythira: Chalkos is a small beach located 8 km south east of Chora, the capital of Kythira and close to Kalamos village. Chalkos beach is accessible via an irregular trail.
Chalkos beach distinguishes for its unique features, charming atmosphere and beautiful landscape. Surrounded by the imposing verdant cliffs, Chalkos is one of the most frequented beaches with unspoilt characteristics. It is often windy but it is a fabulous spot to relax and spend some nice summer vacation.
A plethora of tourist facilities are found here, most of which are found on teh left side of teh beach.The beach stretches for about 200 metres with white pebbles and crystalline waters, ideal for a refreshing swim. There is a cantine serving cold drinks and snacks.
Lykodimou beach
Lykodimou Beach Kythira: Located 25 km from Chora, the capital of Kythira, Lykodimou doesn’t get frequented at all. A lovely beach with wild rocky surroundings, Lykodimou can be reached only by private means. Above the beach, there is a nice canteen serving light snacks and a refreshing drinks. The beach combines sand and pebbles and the seabed can be uncomfortable sometimes. A small cave in the middle of the beach provides shade from the sun. Due to its location on the north west of Kythira island, Lykodimou is a fabulous spot to see the sunset. The beach is easily accessed from the village of Logothetianika. The road needs extra caution as it gets quite narrow.
Agia Pelagia beach
Agia Pelagia Beach Kythira: The beautiful beach of Agia Pelagia lies in front of the settlement 26 km northeast of Chora. The long beach stretches for 400 metres with golden sand and white shiny pebbles scattered at the shore.
The beach is known for its sparkling waters and the perfect surroundings that attract many visitors and especially families. The beach offers nice facilities. It tends to be crowded during the high season games like beach volley are a regular feature. A long tuft of lush trees cover the coast offering excellent shaded spots to the visitors. The beach receives many boats and yachts.
Agios Nikolaos beach
Agios Nikolaos Kythira: The majestic bay of Agios Nikolaos is located 20 km north of Chora, the capital of Kythira and close to the popular village of Avlemonas and Moudari lighthouse. It is a small beach with white pebbles and crystalline waters. The beach is quite secluded and rocky with no tourist facilities.
Here you have the chance to spend a peaceful and relaxing day with your friends and family. This natural environment is even suitable for the children. The bay offers breathtaking sunset views. The beach is accessed through a dirt road.
Lagkada beach
Lagkada Beach Kythira: Lagkada (or Kakia Lagkada) is a beautiful beach close to Agia Pelagia, right next to Firi Ammos and Kalamitsi. Access to the beach is through a dirt road from Agia Pelagia. This large beach is surrounded by high cliffs and in fact it is the end of Lagkada Gorge, a frequent climbing spot in Kythira. The relaxing ambience and the crystal water make it a fabulous place to swim, as the water of Lagkada are continuously awarded the Blue Flag.
On one side of the beach, there is a beach bar that also offers sun beds and umbrellas. In summer, beach volleyball tournaments are organized, fire nights on the beach and certainly the Barbarossa Days with piratic contests, as in the Medieval ages, the legendary pirate Barbarossa had slaughtered the residents of Paleochora, located above the beach of Lagkada.
Platia Amos beach
Platia Ammos Beach Kythira: The long beach of Platia Ammos is located 30 km north of Chora, the capital of Kythira and close to the village of Karavas. The small coastal settlement lies around the calm natural bay which is right next to the fishing port. Platia Ammos is the ideal place for swimming and sunbathing with a superb view of the Peloponnese. The combination of pebbles and sand and the charming atmosphere of the village is quite relaxing.
After a refreshing swim in Platia Ammos you shall visit one of the waterfront taverns and restaurants facing the endless blue sea. Two kilometres south, the little pebbled beach of Fourni is even quieter and more attractive, with its beautiful crystal-clear waters.
Kaladi beach
Kaladi Beach Kythira: Kaladi beach is a pure marvel that every tourist should seek in Kythira. It is located 15 km north of Chora, the island’s capital and close to Paleopolis. The small beautiful beach consists of pebbles and an enchanting rocky landscape. Its wonderful crystal clear waters and superb caves surround this stunning cove which is an ideal destination for swimming and diving.
There are no tourist facilities apart from some natural shaded spots to protect you from the summer sun. It can get quite crowded in the peak season especially with young people who enjoy dives from the rocks.
Diakofti beach
Diakofti Beach Kythira: Diakofti is located 30km east of Chora, the capital of Kythira. It is the main port of the island serving ferries from Gythio, Neapoli, Monemvasia and Kissamos in Chania. This port was constructed in 1982 and substituted the ports of Kapsali and Agia Pelagia, that served Kythira till that time.
Apart from the port, Diakofti has a few buildings most of which are taverns and guestrooms. In Diakofti region is one of the prettiest beaches of Kythira for its blue green water and exotic and enchanting landscape that attracts many visitors. The long beach has soft white sand and shallow water, which makes it ideal for families. It is lined by seaside taverns and a few trees that provide shade from the sun.
